At the beginning of today's lesson you finished reading the rest of the article you had started at the end of last class. Good reading and pronunciation is improving! Afterwards you spoke about your work meetings and whether they are formal or informal and what could make a meeting more effective. Great points raised. This completed Unit 1. I was happy to hear that you started listening to English audio while in the car and repeating the words and phrases to practice! We started unit 2 with a list of statements of a chairman's role and you had to mention whether you agreed or disagreed with each and you went on to state why. You used effective vocabulary to state your ideas clearly. Lastly, there was an audio clip you listened to with three different conversations. You had to specify whether the individuals sounded like they knew each other or not. This clearly indicated that you fully understood what was being said and the nuance of the conversations. Great job today Andrea!

Today we started the lesson by correcting your homework, which was the Meeting Words crossword puzzle. It was difficult as the words were from throughout the lesson and some were only mentioned in past audio clips. You did great considering! We continued the lesson today with an exercise where you had to put a number of words in the right order to make meeting expression phrases. Good job with this too as it was difficult. Keep up the good work Andrea!

Amazing job today Andrea! You did a great job completing your homework and we were able to utilize the words from the exercises you finished to move on further with the lesson today, as they were linked. You wrote two emails very well! You went on to match the words (verbs) to their meanings and then used them correctly in a number of phrases given. Words were given and you successfully unscrambled them to create the correct sentences. Lastly, you read a text describing what brainstorming is. Great reading - keep your eye on the plural words and make sure to pronounce the "s" endings but overall very good as you read "enough" - a word ending in the silent "gh" perfectly on your own. Keep it up!

We started today's lesson by reviewing your homework. You wrote two emails, one formal and a second, informal. You did a very good job and only needed a few revisions with the order of words in sentences but overall great job! Tips, the meeting times should be written numerically and do not end informal emails with "bye bye", perhaps choose, have a good day, talk to you soon etc. Afterwards, you read text titled "Using first Names" which spoke about when you can use first names and last names in professional environments. Lastly, we listened to an audio clip of a person talking about a meeting that needed to be organized and what was needed for it. The linked exercise needed you to fill in the blanks with information you heard but required you to translate what was being said in a summarized way in order to use the correct words within the phrases. It was challenging but considering this, you did well. Don't forget to review the next exercise (Slide 16 exercise #10) for homework in order to prepare for the role play discussion we will have next lesson. Keep it up!

Wonderful lesson today as it was varied and you did a great job reading too! Just remember to focus on reading the "s" ending of words and perfect the ways words ending in "ed" can sound (chart now given) - practice will make perfect! You read an audio script that contained a dialogue between two people. You correctly identified the missing phrases in the linked exercises and you were able to also match similar ways of expressing some phrases from the dialogue with sentences given afterwards. I showed you an informational document to augment the lesson, that dealt with how to express the time of day .. ten after, ten two, a quarter past, a quarter to, half-past etc. I also took the opportunity to show you a chart describing the three different ways words ending in "ed" can sound (id, t, d).

Today we continued with English for Meetings, Unit 1 and we focused on matching phrases you learned confirming a meeting time, length of meeting, arranging a meeting etc. You then put words in the right order to make phrases for making meeting arrangements. You used the useful phrases you also learned were about situations where you can't attend and arranging a specific date and time too. Our role play went smoothly where you effectively used the newly learned phrases to plan to meet, very good! Lastly, you read two emails and stated which one you thought was formal. New phrases were introduced to greet and close emails in an more casual or informal way or in a formal way. For homework you'll be writing an email using the newly learned phrases (Slide 12, exercise #6). Great job today Andrea!

Lots of reading practice today Andrea and you did very well! Only a few reminders, "cc" in a word is pronounced like an X in English, sound out your endings- especially the final "s" in plural words, "gh" in English is silent- like for example in "though" or "Brighton". The audio script was very useful in teaching you the different ways to ask for and respond to meeting requests along with organizing a meeting date and time. The exercises afterwards helped to solidify these. You matched definitions of kinds of meetings to the correct words, like for example, brainstorming, shareholder, kick-off, progress, board and team meetings. You also had a chance to elaborate on what kind of meetings you have and with whom (exterior clients, internal ones etc.). Great job!

Good effort listening to detailed audio clips today Andrea and in understanding most of the information the first time! There was a lot of information and you successfully applied most of it unassisted within the exercises you completed. The audio clips dealt with people describing their companies and also taking phone calls using the proper wording to ask for information. You went on to write the titles of departments within your company and spoke about what they each do. Good job with your spelling, very few revisions! Keep up the effort and don't forget to create moments to listen to English language podcasts in your car or watch shows and documentaries too.

Andrea, good choice of words when coming up with spontaneous questions about images at the beginning of today's lesson! You listened to an audio clip that gave email addresses using terms such as, underscore, dot, at (@ sign) etc. You in turn also gave me your email address correctly. We completed Unit 3 and started Unit 4 which began with an open ended question where you responded to very well, speaking about your department at your company and if you work in a team or alone. Another audio clip was part of the next exercise where two fictitious employees talked about where they worked and what they do at their company. You went on to fill in the blanks very well with the correct verbs from that clip. Lastly, you used these verbs (sell, manage, have, work, live, make and meet) to write about yourself. Excellent job doing this, with very little correction!

Today's lesson focused on talking about your company - where your company is, where the head office is located and where your office is. We started a new unit, 3. You had the opportunity to listen to a few audio clips and then successfully completed the corresponding exercises. You matched pictures given to the correct terms, you filled out the adjectives you heard in the proper blank spaces in sentences given and you made your own sentences with adjectives. Very good work! We covered contractions such as, we're, they're etc and used Wh questions too by practicing asking, who are they? What's your company? Where's Bill? Who are they? Overall good job today Andrea, keep it up!
