Andrea, unfortunately today was the last of your package of lessons. It was a pleasure teaching you! Today we completed Unit 3 of English for Meetings. You read an article about video conferencing and then answered questions to elaborate on your opinions and information from the article itself. You brought up good points and used proper vocabulary to express yourself, good job! We went on to start the next Unit, 4. You read statements about meetings and had to express whether you agreed or disagreed with each. Afterwards, you listened to an audio clip of a meeting and checked a list off of what was mentioned. You learned some sentence starters that were mentioned in the audio clip, such as: Obviously, Personally, Frankly, Basically and To be Honest. Keep on finding moments to practice English to help with your fluency. I hope to be able to teach you again in the near future. All the best!

We focused on free conversation during today's lesson which is great as it gives you a chance to express yourself and I can also correct, translate or fill in the proper words you require in what you're saying. Great job today. You spoke slowly and clearly about the topic of your pet, Nicki. You chose from an extensive list of conversational topics and preferred to speak about "Loving Dogs and Other Pets" from my online Compelling Conversations book. We will alternate between these types of lessons and the structured English for Meetings classes. This will give you a good variety of English fluency skills. Keep pushing yourself to speak in English and to elaborate during our classes, you are improving!

Good job today elaborating and giving your opinion on the topic of Crime and Punishment, which is part of the series of Compelling Conversations. You were able to use good words to answer certain questions that came up. I decided to integrate conversational lessons between the English for Meetings classes in order to have you speak and think more in English about a variety of different topics. I'm glad to hear that you are practicing your English with an application when you have a little time during your free moments every day. Keep up your effort in speaking Andrea!

Today we focused our lesson on ways of asking for clarification or interjecting within a meeting. You began by reading the phrases commonly used for the aforementioned reasons. We had two exercises where you had to unscramble words to form other useful phrases for asking for clarification. Lastly, you started reading an article about digital meetings and the growth of video conferencing. We will continue with this next lesson and follow with the related exercises. Great job today Andrea!

Great listening skills today Andrea! We listened to heated disagreements in a corporate meeting and then you had to decipher which expressions were for interruptions and which ones were for clarifications. There were fill in the blanks you needed to complete and then from there you successfully identified which of these sentences were for clarifying a point, giving an opinion and interrupting. Today you learned different ways of handling each of these situations in a meeting.

Today's lesson focused on how to describe sales performance. Many words were used such as: performed- well, extremely well, very poorly, poorly etc. Afterwards you added each of these words to a scale showing least to most to show your understanding of each word and how descriptive each was. Your pronunciation of "acquisition" was perfect from the first time you read it in today's text, along with showing that you know how to read numbers such as 2004, 2005 and 1994. Another exercise asked you to complete sentences with the correct form of the word given (either in past simple or present perfect), with only a little bit of assistance on the more difficult ones, overall you did well! Afterwards, you reread each sentence (that expressed the performance of different sales sectors) and correctly matched them to the different graph charts (rose, fell and remained steady). You listened to an audio clip and completed the given sentences with the correct words and lastly you started matching two different sentence parts to the corresponding one to make a complete sentence. Good work - we'll continue with this at the beginning of tomorrow's lesson. Keep up the good work!

Super job reading a more complex text today Andrea! You pronounced a few new and difficult words slowly and clearly. We completed Unit 2 and moved on to Unit 3 of the English for Meetings series. In this unit you answered hypothetical questions of how you would respond if you were a chairperson in a meeting and having to deal with a variety of situations. We continued with an audio clip of a fictitious meeting and you had to indicate what the individuals stated the performance of certain items was on a scale of very good to very poor. Following this, with the same audio, you matched parts of sentences from the conversation to the correct counterparts. Lastly, you used bolded words in a text you read in the correct spaces of several sentences within an exercise. You started unscrambling jumbled sentences and did well on these but we'll continue with the rest of this exercise in tomorrow's lesson. Keep up the great work Andrea!

Today's lesson focused on meetings, how they flow and the related terminology. We started by matching meeting item descriptions to the actual parts of a meeting agenda. You listened to an audio clip of a person outlining a meeting arrangement with another individual. From there you proceeded to fill in the appropriate words within sentences extracted from the audio and continued to read about formal and informal meetings. In the next exercise, there was a list of different kinds of meetings and you had to indicate whether each was informal or formal. We role played a meeting introduction where you had to introduce yourself and speak about what you read in the role play company information description. Lastly, you successfully unscrambled sentences that had to do with meetings and what we had covered in the lesson. Great job Andrea!

Today's lesson focus was on agenda items to be addressed as a chairperson and what phrases to use in each situation. You listened to an audio clip of a chairperson speaking, completed a linked true or false questionnaire and proceeded to correct the false statements. Afterwards you were given two lists, one of verbs and another of phrasal verbs with the same meaning that you had to match and then proceed to use in phrases given (such as: discuss - to talk about, review - go back over, finalize - finish off, examine - look at, consider - think about). Good job with this! Lastly, you role played the position of a chairperson and had the opportunity to use the correct phrases and methods of introducing the meeting, introducing a person and giving a person's apologies when they were not able to attend. To complete this exercise you then read meeting notes and compared them to the meeting agenda, elaborating on what items were missing that should have been mentioned. Great job today Andrea, keep it up!

Today we listened to the three conversations again from the last lesson to refresh our memories on the details. Afterwards you filled in missing words to complete sentences from the recording and then successfully indicated which topics of discussion were mentioned from a given list (work, sport, religion, cinema, politics, family, holidays, hobbies and weather). You read "Small Talk" an article that described what small talk is, how to show you're listening and what topics of discussion are usually introduced within this type of conversation. Matching two parts of phrases to make small talk sentences and following that with matching their correct answers from a list of choices was another exercise you did very well. Lastly, we role played and you made introductions and small talk using what you learned from today's lesson. Great job Andrea!
