It was lovely to speak with you again, Yasuko. Today we started talking about Computers and the Net. Here are some things for you to think about for the next lesson: how do you use the Net? what is Second Life? what are the dangers of the Net, if any? Today we spoke about peripherals and what computers can and can't do. We will also continue to explore this. Remember not to say 'In fact', but say 'That's right' instead. You're doing well, Yasuko. Keep up the excellent work. Best, Stephen.

Hello Yasuko. Today we completed the topic of Inventions and Discoveries. We looked at the things that inventions had replaced and whether or not we were better off before. We also discussed irritating inventions and which inventions you would find most difficult to live without. In the last slide we talked about future inventions. You thought that it would be nice to have an invention which would enable us to communicate with animals. What a great idea! One day maybe it will be possible... who knows? Finally we touched on the idea of holograms. You showed you had very good range again, Yasuko. The more you speak the more confident you will become, which will help you hesitate less. Keep up the excellent work. Best, Stephen.

Hello Yasuko. Thanks very much for the stimulating chat today. We continued the topic of Inventions and Discoveries and I think there is still plenty to talk about. Future inventions: what do you think Man will invent in the future? - Any ideas? What would you like to see invented? Why? Think about it for the next session. Here are some words that came up today: me: I'm supposed to, at my fingertips/at the touch of a button/at the click of a mouse, easily accessible, side effects, a practising catholic, a low birth rate. You have a wide vocabulary range but sometimes you lack the confidence to use the words that you know. Try to put your fears of making a mistake behind you and let your expression flow out - you'll do fine, I promise. That's all for now. Thanks again for coming. All the best, Stephen.

It was lovely to speak with you again, Yasuko. You have very good range when speaking English and you also understand English spoken at native speed; you should know that I do not grade my English at all when I speak with you. Here are some words that came up: like an oven, that's right, self-discipline, moderation. Grammar issues: for 'influenced from Italian culture' say 'influenced by Italian culture'; for 'I'm not consider myself...' say 'I don't consider myself'. Okay, that's all for now. I look forward to our next session. All the best, Stephen.

Hello Yasuko. Great conversation. I really enjoyed it. We began the topic of Inventions today. We explored the concept of time-saving devices. There are plenty more areas to explore: where does our fixation for invention come from? how do inventions change human behaviour? what has the internet done to our lives? Here are some words that came up today: awe-inspiring, it was a godsend, a muscle-saving device, the collective imagination, sedentary. Grammar: when you use auxiliary verbs (do, can etc) make sure the verb that follows is in the base form. That's all for now, Yasuko. I look forward to meeting you again soon. Keep up the excellent work. Best, Stephen.

Very positive & enjoyable lesson thanks to Yasuko's receptiveness and also her aptitude to assimilate rapidly & instinctively. I noted in particular (even though this is only our second lesson)an improvement in the length and quality of sentences. If we can manage to maintain the same rhythm for future lessons I have complete confidence that Yasuko will reach her linguistic goals. Many thanks again to Yasuko for an extremely pleasant lesson.

I really liked the way we 'fell' into the topic today. It was so natural and effortless. Well done! Today we finished the Careers and Ambition topic. We talked about job satisfaction and money, women at work, and male/female inequalities. Here are some points that came up during the lesson: it motivates me, carpentry, woman-oriented job, glass ceiling, career ladder, threatened. Idiom: be careful of how you use 'In fact'. Basically, instead of saying 'in fact' to express agreement, now say 'that's right'. 'In fact' is a false friend that comes directly from the Italian 'infatti', but they are used in different ways. 'That's right' is better. That's all for now, Yasuko. I look forward to meeting you again soon. Keep up the excellent work. Best, Stephen.

How lovely to speak with you again, Yasuko. You really are fun to speak with. It is a pity the line was bad (only at the end). Today we continued with the Careers and Ambition slides. We still have enough material for another lesson if you are interested. Here is a grammar issue that I noticed: although you speak very clearly and it is very easy to understand you, there are times when you do not link your sentences together, which sometimes makes you sound a little disjointed. For example, you said 'You work outside your home. You can't manage your time as you like. You depend on your customer.' - No problem with these sentences (well structured etc.) But what do you think of: 'You work outside your home, which means you can't manage your time because you depend on your customer.' Three sentences into one. Just a suggestion. Keep up the excellent work. Best, Stephen.

It was lovely to speak with you again, Yasuko. Today we spoke about Careers and Ambition. We covered the first two slides, which looked at various types of job. Here are some expressions that came up: to fly a plane, the national health service, a lawyer defends your rights, a doctor cures patients, financial advice, tax return. Grammar: for 'The NHS is working better in Japan' say 'The NHS works better in Japan'; for 'In this sense less people feel the need to use the NHS' say 'In this sense fewer people feel the need to use the NHS'. Okay, that's all for the time being. I look forward to another lesson with you soon. Keep up the excellent work. Best, Stephen.

I really enjoy chatting with you, Yasuko. Today we continued with the topic on Artful Advertising. Although there is more material on this topic, there is probably not enough for an entire lesson, so I would recommend moving on to the next topic. Here are some words that came up during the lesson: night owl, early bird, the early bird catches the worm, no frills, addictive, to get around a problem. We looked at various issue to do with advertising and we analysed to adverts. Thanks again for participating so well. All the best, Stephen.
