Today we created a third island (describing a process) and started the unit on improvising in a meeting. We worked on ideas for a strategy we could use when doing an "impromptu" talk.

We started our Second Unit on meetings. We'll look at a second speaking strategy (i.e. improvising in a meeting). We talked about how to approach an impromptu situation or talk, worked out a strategy and tried it out in class.

Today we finished the unit on socializing by reviewing the expressions we learned, the technique for reacting to news and the grammar of "used to" when talking about life and events.

Today we looked at more expressions to use when socializing and learned a technique to sound natural when reacting to news (question tag, expression, follow up questions). Last, we corrected the listening activity which we'll finish in the next class (as a speaking task).

Reviewed 1st Island using "toolkit" spreadsheet, looked at difference between past and 'present perfect' in English and keywords to use: for, since, yet, still, never, always, just. We started the last part of our 1st unit: Small Talk and looked at expressions for avoiding commitments.

Today we worked out a 'framework' to evaluate your introduction, and decide how to improve it. Excellent ideas on that! We also looked again at common expressions to use in an introduction, exchanging greetings and talking about what you do.

Great job today! We worked on introductions, talked about what makes a good first impression and learned some 'high frequency' responses to use when greeting people for the first time.
