Professional Experience

B.A. in German Language & Literature from Smith College   Offline teaching experience: 3 Online teaching experience: 2   For the past seven years I have tutored English Language Learners from around the world. Currently, I teach English (my native tongue) and German (a language I love for its philosophy and literature) through three online schools.~~~ As a Master English Tutor at the Jacobson Center of Smith College, I tutored students one-on-one for single sessions or week after week. From brainstorming for short essays to editing honors theses, I helped college students with English, as she is read and written. Having lived in half a dozen countries and formally studied three foreign languages, I truly appreciate the power of language. These experiences have also led me to value conversational language learning. Just as learning is stronger than memorizing, I believe that communication is stronger than grammar. I would therefore characterize my philosophy of language learning as a Suzuki-style process, with the student practicing, being exposed to, and becoming comfortable with the spoken language before turning to the rules of the written language. ~~~ Contact me for my Editing & Translation Rates or any other special requests! ~~~

Personal Information

I love languages and travel, enjoy various cuisines and arts, and could spend all day chatting. In my spare time, I write elaborate letters to my family and friends, and keep a blog. Recently returned to the US after a Philosophy Research Fulbright Fellowship in Germany, I’m working on several books and enjoying the chance to teach students from all over the world. While studying, I was a Master English Tutor at the Jacobson Center of Smith College, from which I graduated with a B.A. in Philosophy and German. For the past 7 years I have been tutoring English Language Learners across the globe, and I look forward to many more years of helping students of one of the world's most poetic--and useful--languages: English!
