I speak Norwegian with native fluency. I attended a year of High School in Norway as an AFS exchange student, then a year as a Fulbright scholar to the University of Oslo, eventually finding employment and residing in Norway until 2002. In Seattle, I teach Norwegian language classes professionally at 5 levels. I offer two different curriculum approaches: one is comprehensive, learning basic vocabulary & grammar and building to sentences, paragraphs & conversation skill. This is the best approach for long-term learning, and building the ability to converse and read and understand. This curriculum is based on study materials that I provide as we go along. The other curriculum is for short-term learning, focused on basic phrases and vocabulary. This method is more limiting, as your ability to converse, read and understand will be limited to the phrases that you've learned. It is ideal for anyone that will be traveling to Norway shortly who doesn't have time for learning the grammar of the language. Sometimes, this curriculum is also ideal for getting your feet wet in the language/culture, and whetting your appetite for progressing to the comprehensive learning. This curriculum is based on a travel phrase book available in bookstores. I am currently teaching several students worldwide via online communication and it is working very well.

I am a Norwegian-American living in the Seattle area, after living almost 10 years in Norway. I am active in the extensive Scandinavian community here and I'm passionate about Norwegian language and culture.
