Podcast 137. Tiempo Loco /Crazy Weather (Escuchar/ listen) Hablar del tiempo ha dejado de ser una conversación vacía de contenido, últimamente el tiempo se está convirtiendo en la primera noticia del día. Era más fácil cuando sabíamos a que atenernos y hacía mucho frío en invierno, frío en otoño, calorcito y lluvia en primavera y un calor asfixiante en verano.Y es que a todos, de una forma u otra nos afecta el tiempo, al menos a mi me afecta.Si me levanto, miro por la ventana y me encuentro con un día lluvioso,sin proponérmelo, me pongo de mal humor, gruñona; mientras que si entra sol por la ventana mi humor cambia y me siento bien, contenta, exagerando un poco, “radiante de felicidad”.Últimamente mi humor cambia por momentos, igual que el tiempo, lo que empieza siendo un buen día puede convertirse en un día lluvioso y frío y a la hora de comer estoy trabajando muerta de frío y sin paraguas. Los que somos sensibles a los cambios de tiempo corremos el riesgo de sufrir varios cambios de personalidad al día, desde que nos levantamos hasta que nos vamos a la cama.El tiempo está cambiando, nieva en Abril, las temperaturas suben o bajan 20 grados de la noche al día o de un día para otro y, hablando ahora en serio, seas o no sensible a los cambios de tiempo, estos cambios bruscos nos afectan a todos. En mi idioma no tenemos una expresión que explique esto tan bien como en inglés que cuando estas enfadado o deprimido dicen que estas “under the weather” mientras que si tienes “a sunny disposition” es porque te encuentras bien, estás contento. En castellano sólo recuerdo una frase que tiene que ver con el tiempo y el humor “A mal tiempo buena cara” una buena manera de decir que uno no debe dejarse influenciar por las nubes, la lluvia, la nieve y el sol o los problemas, ya que el dicho tiene mucho que ver también con tratar de superar las situaciones complicadas con una buena disposición de ánimo.De cualquier manera lo mejor es que estamos en primavera, la naturaleza está empezando a demostrarlo aunque sigamos necesitando el abrigo y la bufanda cuando vamos a trabajar por las mañanas. ¡Y el buen tiempo me sienta tan bien!Crazy WeatherLately, to talk about weather is not a small- talk conversation any more, weather has become the first news. It was easier when we knew that it was frozen in Winter, cold in Autum., warm and rainy in Spring and terribly hot in Summer. Because people in one way or another are affected by the weather, at least I’m affected.If I get up, look through the window and find a rainy day, I have no intention of doing it but I become in a bad mood and groan and if the sun shines through the bedroom window my mood changes and I feel well, happy, exagerating a bit, “I am glowing with happiness”.Lately my mood changes at the drop of a hat, like the weather, what starts off as a pleasant sunny day, can easily become a rainy, cold day and at lunch time I am terribly cold at work and without umbrella.People like me who are weather sensitive lately run the risk of changing our personality several times during the day, from we wake up until we go to bed at night.Weather is changing, it snows in April, temperatures raise or drop 20 degrees from night to midday or from one day to another, and talking now seriously, you can be or not be sensitive to weather changes but these sudden changes affect everybody.In my language we haven’t an expression that reflects this as clear as in English that when somebody feels unhappy or depressed they say he is under the weather. And if you have a sunny disposition it is because you feel well, you are cheerful.I only remember one idiom in Spanish related to weather and humor “A mal tiempo buena cara” a good way to say you mustn’t be influenced by the clouds, the rain, the snow or the sun or by the problems you have, as the idiom also refers to get through the difficult situations with a good mood.Anyway, the best is that we are in Spring now, nature is coming back to life althought we keep on wearing coats and scarves when we go to work in the morning.And I feel so well with good weather!Música: Jorge Drexler "El tiempo del Cambio" |

Social Nets (Escuchar/ Listen) Encontrar viejos amigos a los que has perdido la pista, conocer gente que vive muy lejos o muy cerca, encontrar trabajo, Facebook ofrece todo un mundo de posibilidades. Las redes sociales nunca han sido más rápidas ni más sencillas de usar, aunque tengan aún muchos inconvenientes.Los usuarios de Facebook han pasado de 57 millones a 300, la verdad es que esta red crece tan rápido que cuando grabe este podcast, estas cifras estarán ya desfasadas.Twitter es otro fenómeno social, una red donde la gente cuenta lo que está haciendo. Cuando te das de alta te aparece este mensaje “¿Qué estás haciendo ahora?. Desde ese momento puedes contarle al mundo tu vida paso a paso, puedes empezar a twittear, no hace falta que escribas cosas interesantes o ingeniosas, simplemente lo que estás haciendo.Will Carling, jugador de rugby escribió “estoy escuchando a Cold Play mientras ayudo a preparar la comida para unos amigos que vienen de visita”. Liz Taylor es otra fiel seguidora de esta red que utilizaba para informar a sus fans de cosas tan privadas como que iba a operarse y escribió una nota pidiéndoles que rezaran por ella.Entre los adolescentes de mi país la red preferida es tuenti. todos los alumnos del instituto tienen su cuenta en “tuenti” donde escriben comentarios, suben fotos y se mantienen informados de lo que pasa en el instituto y en la ciudad.Los mensajes a móviles también son una buena forma de mantener el contacto, los adolescentes envían una media de 30 al día, los adultos preferimos usar la Blackberry o Facebook, pero tanto adultos como jóvenes nos hemos acostumbrado a estar localizados y a enviar mensajes a través de las redes.Sin duda no todo son ventajas, hay que utilizar las redes con cabeza, mostrar sólo la información que realmente queremos hacer pública y tener cuidado con los comentarios y las fotos.Todos los días leemos historias y conocemos a gente que se ha arrepentido de haber dicho algo o de las fotos que ha puesto.En definitiva, las redes sociales pueden hacerte la vida más fácil o más difícil, depende de ti.Social NetsFind old friends that you have lost track of, meet people who life faraway or close to you, to find a job. Autodidacta- Self-Study (Escuchar/ Listen) ¿Quieres aprender algo y no tienes tiempo? ¿Quieres aprender algo y no hay posibilidades en la ciudad donde vives? ¿Quieres aprender y los cursos son demasiado caros?.No te preocupes, hay una solución a esos problemas, puedes hacer un curso en la red o convertirte en “autodidacta”. Los cursos de auto-aprendizaje son muy habituales. Lo mismo que hace unos años todo el mundo leía o había leído un libro de auto-ayuda, hoy día todos hemos hecho o hemos pensado en algún momento hacer uno de estos cursos.Los cursos de auto-aprendizaje son cómodos, estudias cuando quieres, a tu ritmo, puedes ir deprisa o despacio, dependiendo de cómo te sientas, o de lo que necesites, estudias en tu propia casa y puedes dedicarle el tiempo que quieras. Otra gran ventaja es el precio, son mucho más baratos que ir a clase o contratar un profesor particular, solamente tienes que comprar el libro y empezar cuando quieras.Me llamó mucho la atención el primer libro de este tipo que leí “Mac para Dummies”, ahora hay libros de este tipo sobre todos los temas que puedas imaginar “Frases en Inglés para Dummies” “ Páginas Web para Dummies” “ Cocina” “Yoga” “Guitarra” , etc, etc. Se puede aprender desde un idioma hasta Budismo.Pero, desde mi punto de vista, el método también tiene su parte negativa y es que estudiar solo, ser autodidacta requiere mucha disciplina y constancia y es muy agradable tener compañeros de clase para compartir dudas, éxitos y cotilleos. Estudiar solo puede resultar muy aburrido y poco estimulante. Yo definitivamente, si puedo, prefiero salir de casa para estudiar. ¿Tú?Self- LearningDo you want to learn something and you have no time? Do you want to learn something and it’s impossible in the city where you live? Do you want to learn and the courses are too expensive?Don’t worry, there is a solution to these problems, you can do online distance learning courses or you can teach yourself with a self-study course. Self study courses are very common these days. Some years ago everybody read or had ever read a self-help book, today all of us have atended or have thought about attending one of these courses.Self-study courses have a lot of advantages, you study at your own pace, you can go quickly or slowly, it depends on how you feel or what you need, you study at home and you can take as much time as you want. Other advantage is the price, they are cheaper than the classes or a private teacher. You only have to buy the book and start learning.I was surprised the first of these books I read “Mac for Dummies”. Now there are books like this on just about anything you can imagine “English Sentences for Dummies” “Web Pages for Dummies” “Cooking” “Yoga” “Guitar for Dummies”, etc. You can learn from a language to Buddhism.But, from my point of view, this method has also disadvantages, to study alone, the self-study requires discipline and to be persevering and it’s very pleasant to have mates to share doubts, success and gossips.To study “alone” can be very boring and not very stimulating. I definitely prefer to leave home to sutdy if I can. What about you? |

Bolsas de Plástico (Escuchar/ Listen) Obsesión por el Plástico¿Cuántas bolsas de plástico usas a la semana? ¿Alguna vez has contado las bolsas que te dan en el supermercado cuando haces la compra semanal? Yo si, ayer las conté y me dieron ocho. No es fácil reducir el número de bolsas de plástico en mi país, dependemos del plástico para muchas de las cosas que hacemos a diario y aunque algunos supermercados empezaron hace unos meses a lanzar una gran campaña publicitaria para concienciar a la gente del peligro que suponen para el medio ambiente, los consumidoresnoacabamos de acostumbrarnos a ir a la compra con un carrito o con bolsas re-utilizables.Algunos países como el Reino Unido están pensando en crear una tasa especial para las bolsas de plástico, de hecho Irlanda ya lo hizo en 2002 y el consumo bajo alrededor de un 90 por ciento, de 1,2 billones de bolsas al año a 200,000.Está claro que el principal obstáculo para conseguir que el mundo llegue a estar algún día sin bolsas de plástico volando por las calles, es el consumidor que sólo en caso de pagar por ello estaría dispuesto a emplear otro tipo de bolsas.Todos nosotros hemos leído alguna vez que las bolsas de plástico tardan 1,000 años en descomponerse, no se si la cifra es exacta o es una exageración, lo que si es cierto es que animales como las tortugas marinas las confunden con medusas y se ahogan al intentar tragarlas, los albatros las confunden con calamares y mueren de la misma manera y algunos delfines también han aparecido muertos con bolsas de plástico en sus orificios nasales.Nadie duda de que son una terrible amenaza para el mundo marino.¿Cuándo vas a dejar de usar bolsas de plástico? Yo he decidido hacerlo ya, el próximo sábado llevaré mi carro de la compra al supermercado. Lo prometo.Plastic ObsessionHow many plastic bags do you use a week? Los cocineros españoles empiezan a ser conocidos mundialmente por su creatividad, un ejemplo de este fenómeno es Ferran Adrià cocinero jefe y dueño del Bulli, el restaurante con el menú más sorprendente que puedas imaginar.Sus clientes pueden degustar la “gastronomía molecular”, la ciencia en la cocina. Sus creaciones sorprenden a sus clientes y el sabor es siempre el logro más importante. También es conocido por inventar la “esferificación” técnica que consiste en mezclar sabor con un agente congelanteconsiguiendo esferas líquidas por dentro y sólidas por fuera.Los cubos de sandía lacados con pistacho, el lacado es una nueva técnica Nipona, la croqueta de mango hecha con polvo de albahaca, este polvo cuesta alrededor de 5000 euros el kilo, orejas de conejo crujientes con mantequilla de cacao, paella de kellogs, quinoa de foie gras con consomé de ajo blanco y sorbete de almendras, o sorbete de maíz a la parrilla, una mezcla extraña de hielo y fuego que dicen que debe probarse para apreciar su excelente sabor, 28 platos diferentes con texturas y sabores sorprendentes. Es imposiblesaber que se va a servir cada temporada.La revista Gourmet dice de Adrià que es el “Salvador Dalí de la cocina” y para seguir manteniendo susíndices de creatividad, el restaurante cierra seis meses al año, durante este tiempo Adrià viaja en busca de inspiración y lleva a cabo todo tipo de experimentos en su laboratorio culinario, El Taller.El menú cuesta alrededor de 275 euros y 75 cocineros trabajan a diario para dar de comer a 50 comensales. Además de camareros y el mismo Ferran Adrià que cocina, pasea entre las mesas y habla con los clientes.¡Que aproveche!Cook RevolutionThere’s a revolution going on in Spanish cooking.
