This course assumes absolutely no knowledge of French. The focus is on basic conversation for people wanting to travel to a French-speaking region, and written recognition of important words and phrases. Grammar is de-emphasized. Examples of situations discussed include finding the restroom and understanding directions, ordering in a restaurant, buying and paying for necessities, requesting a hotel room, reading and understanding road signs, understanding times and dates, and learning about the weather.
