Happy Teacher’s Day
Today is the birthday of Confucius and is celebrated throughout Taiwan as Teacher’s Day!
Confucius is a hallmark of not only Chinese education. He is a paragon for all teachers, symbolizing the philosophy of “Educate all without discrimination and teach according to the abilities of one’s students”. Confucius himself is credited with having taught more than 3,000 students! His teaching method was striking and revolutionary choosing a position of a middle course between studying and reflecting on what has one learned.
Yearly, September 28, is celebrated all over Taiwan with a series of ceremonies. The Ministry of Education established the day as a national holiday where educational institutes award teachers for their excellence and positive influence. Also people make use of the day to express their gratitude to their teachers by paying them a visit or sending a card!
So this day is in honor of teacher’s struggles and contributions not only to their students but to society as a whole. This day is dedicated to all of you.
