Opening School In Alotenango
Greetings Mynglers,
I hope you all remember in the beginning of June, Marina introduced our first project trying to make a small difference in the world! We sponsor Thea as a project coordinator for Foundation Los Ninos. Thea will be leaving for Guatemala, to help children out of poverty and illiteracy. She is not speaking Spanish yet, so we are very proud to support her Spanish lessons!
We promised we will keep you up to date and finally here are the first news on the realisation of the project. Thea has already started learning Spanish with the Institute Cervantes AVE package! And she is really excited and pleased with her progress so far.
Also we are very happy to announce that on July 15th Institute Los Ninos in cooperation with SKG Stichting Kinderprojecten Guatemala, opened a new school in Alotenango! Have a look at all these wonderful snapshots from that memorable day!
The community of Alotenango has hundreds of children that celebrated the opening of the school! It was a proper festival day for the people of Alotenango! The opening ceremony room was entirely decorated with palm leaves, woven cloths and balloons, while Guatemalan marimba music was playing in the background. Present where the Dutch ambassador, the mayor of Alotenango and a member of the Board of Los Ninos Netherlands. Through the speeches and acknowledgments that followed, the most important message was how this wonderful school offered opportunities for young people to build their future and consequently Guatemala’s future!
Thea, with all our heart we wish you good luck. Thank you for showing us how a dream can become reality!

I wish Thea good health so that she can do what’s in her heart effectively. She is an instrument of a noble task. Thanks to Myngle for doing a noble task too. It’s also an instrument for Thea’s dream.
Thea is a REAL TEACHER. As I was looking at the snapshots and your descriptions of the school (how it was decorated with nature’s best), I was reminded of my perfect and ideal teacher of long ago. This teacher came from a well-to-do family but opted to teach an impoverished barrio with a salary of PhP 500/month (approx. 8 euros). Every morning she would stand in front of an old school with big smiles waiting for her pupils of varied ages and who come from far flung areas. Her students would arrive one by one and the class would start at about 9:00. Her pupils….donned tattered clothes, no slippers nor shoes, uncombed hair…full of innocence but hopeful and very eager and willing to shell out themselves to embrace a new tomorrow through this noble teacher. At the end of the month, the pupils and some parents would bring her some eggs, chickens, root cops or anything they could give as payment for her wonderful lessons.
These situations maybe are unimaginable by those in the affluent Western side. BUT THANKS….THAT AMIDST A PILE OF GOLDEN COINS ARE FEW SHINING SILVERS.
MORE POWER TO YOU MYNGLE AND KUDOS TO YOU THEA.
GOD BE WITH YOU. THE WORLD NEEDS YOU.
