In the spotlight: teacher Kirsten Winkler

Hello Myngle community!

Today in the spotlight we have our teacher Kirsten, who has just become certified or, using her words, obtained the “order of the Myngle empire” ;-). If you want to know more about her, read her confessions here below!

Hello Mynglers,

my name is Kirsten, I am 29 years old and was born in Berlin, Germany. I’ve always been interested in travelling and in other cultures, so an interest for foreign languages came naturally. That was the reason why I studied law with a specialisation on european languages.

Having a wide variety of interests, like archeology, art, literature and music it was kind of hard choosing the right studies. In the end I decided for the “tradition” of my family, legal studies. During and between my studies I lived some time in Canada and New Zealand, further developing my knowledge of the english language and passing the TOEFL exam.

For two years I am permanently living in Brittany, France between the city of Rennes and the coast, which is really great and an important benefit for my French language skills. My home is in the middle of the “Bretagne romantique” and surrounded by fields and woods. The next beach is only 40km away and Rennes with its Boulevards, pubs and shopping centers (the girls know, what I am talking about) is even nearer.
Here I have a little garden and I grow my own organic tomatos, potatos, bell peppers, chilis, courgettes. This is great, because cooking is my passion. It is very relaxing after a hard day and using the veggies from your own garden makes it even better - so rewarding! I love the italian cuisine but I also often go for indian, chinese, thai, malayan and, of course, german cuisine.

I am teaching languages on a professionel level for over six years now. First as an employee in Berlin but since I’ve moved to France I run my own language school together with a colleague, who is responsable for “all the web stuff”. My clients are mostly business people like lawyers, managers and estate agents but I also train artists and private people, learning and/or improving their English / German skills. And I am also teaching French to non native speakers living or working in France.

What I love about teaching languages (especially online) is that you come in touch with people and their cultures from all around the world and you as a teacher can learn as much as your student. One of my main projects right now is my website http://www.deutschhappen.com where I offer a free online project for learners of german as a foreign language. It started as an idea for my students, so that they were able to take a short lesson with me outside the normal schedule. But, as it happens sometimes, this idea got bigger and bigger and now this project is open to everyone who is interested. In the near future I want to start my own podcast, but that is in the early “alpha stadium”.

Talking about Myngle I think that Marina had a very good idea and I hope that this platform will grow with the time. But if we all get involved a bit and are yilling to invest of our time and effort I think there is nothing in the way for a bright Myngle future.

So, keep on myngling!

cu, Kirsten

    Hi Kirsten,

Congratulations for the certification! You are now part of the knights of Myngle… ;-)

nice to read more about your life, I see that most Mynglers have the same in common, and that is a genuine interest and curiosity for other cultures, living abroad, meeting different people…

And yes, we will work together on a very nice new addition to Myngle platform that I think both teachers and students will appreciate :-)
A lot of cretivity to be used…. seeing from your YouTube video, you have enough of that!
