Meet the Team
It is time to introduce the Myngle team.
So I start with me: Marina.
I’m the founder of this Myngle dream, step by step coming to life. And I’m proud of the great team that came to believe in the same dream.
You’ll meet them all.
What do I like?
Well… a picture says more than 1.000 words…
What is the best memory of my past?
Well… many things, I wouldn’t throw away any of my past experiences to date.
But probably one that comes immediately to my mind, as enriching, fun (and tiring) was the one year backpacking through Asia. That is how I celebrated the Millennium change.
You know that feeling of enjoying a long holiday, the longest ever? Then, while the weeks passed by and many miles were left behind, the feeling gradually changed into a strange childish conflict with my backpack, when I suddenly realized it had become my ‘home sweet home’, the only one I will have for the next many months to come.
Then that also passed, and finally the realization: home is not in a building, nor in a backpack, but it is inside; wherever you are. And the childish war with an inanimate object changed into an overwhelming feeling of freedom and happiness. Free to explore new Countries, to meet new people, new cultures, attempting a few words of new languages that make you feel proud, and your host, special.
I love languages!
You can only put your passion in what you truly believe, and like.
Like with Myngle.
I moved from Italy to Holland little after my graduation, proud to carry with me a pretty good level of English and French, only to find out that in Holland I was nothing really special, I’d better add a few more languages if I wanted to fit in. So, there came Dutch, pretty difficult at the start. After that, an easier one- at least for me- Spanish.
And you know what: they all sound the same! All with that funny (or nice) Italian musicality, as my friends say.
Last year I took the challenge with my first attempt ever… with Mandarin.
Still a (very) long way to go.
So, where did all this start?
My background is various, but always I tried to maintain a healthy balance between mind and heart, working with my mind, making choices with my heart.
I started (long ago) with Procter & Gamble, a young marketer enthusiastic and avid to learn, like a cookbook where, if you put all ingredients together, you know what cake will come out of the oven. Then I moved to Holland, for personal reasons I admit, tried some technology with Philips, then an MBA in France. Then came Sara Lee, a step aside in strategy consulting with The Boston Consulting Group, taking the famous helicopter that brings you high and leaves a view where most details are relative and only the big picture counts. Like in life.
With the approaching of the Millennium I thought it was time for a drastic change. Step out of the helicopter, of the company car, of the loft in the centre of Amsterdam to get my loved & hated backpack and leave for the world.
On my way back from the world I fell in love with the Internet, which brings the world together. A new medium of infinite new opportunities, the possibility to shift paradigms, change industries, give everybody a chance; whether it is a small team of young entrepreneurs able to become a multi billion dollars business, or an individual in a remote corner of the world that finally is not isolated anymore, but belongs to the world.
Internet bridges physical distances, covers differences, offers individuals a new place to shine. eBay taught me that.
And from my most recent eBay experience, the step was not so long anymore: Myngle was born to bring the most idealistic of internet to life:
“Promote better understanding of languages and culture, which supports acceptance of diversity.”
I’m proud of being a Myngler!

dear marina
I know you mastered Dutch and that you improved lots!
in between Spanish?
Mandarin I guess is a tough cookie to crack as one of my students
is Chinese in a Dutch primary school during the week
on Saturday she goes to Chinese school so maybe I could supply
you with some Chinese material?
anyways, learning languages is for a lot of kids mostly hearing, trying
and using visual examples because the new generation visualises everything
what about esperanto is that still alive?

Hi Lisa!
I remember you laughing at my cute italian accent, laughing in a positive way.
It hasn’t changed much, although my vocabulary definitely grew.
Esperanto? Yes, definitely. There must be many people in the world wanting to study that. That is the good of Myngle, we do not choose what language is important. As everyone is different. Each of us might have a different preference.
My mother studied Esperanto. But now she is off to Spanish.
She has been an English teacher, now retired.
My aunt a French teacher.
So I guess that runs in the family…

Hi Aubrey!
And thank to you for being one of the first teachers believing in us! The first few months were a lot of ecploration waiting for the results, now it is all coming together, proving that the dream of myself as founder, my partners, Myngle team, and Myngle’s first great pioneers (like you) is all coming together.
Maybe somewhere in the future we will meet personally, then we will all look back at thiese first months with a sweet smile
Keep your great spirit as one of the Myngle teachers pioneers!

Hi Marina,
I am writing an article on how the current economic situation is affecting English language schools for the English Language Gazette.
According to trends from previous recessions, demand for business English goes down but general English goes up, as children and teenagers are sent to learn English to recession-proof them as they start to enter the job market.
It would be great if you can send me recent statistics to prove or disprove this.
I look forward to hear from you
Regards
Michael
